Richard C.E. Morgan, Chairman
Richard C.E. Morgan is Chief Executive Officer of Amphion Innovations plc. Over the course of his career, Mr. Morgan has been directly involved in the start-up and development of more than 35 companies in the information technology, healthcare, and biotechnology industries. Mr. Morgan was a founder and Chief Executive Officer of Amphion Capital Partners LLC (the predecessor company). He was also the Managing General Partner of Amphion Partners LLC (formerly known as Wolfensohn Partners, LP) a position which he retains, although the partnership is no longer active. Before joining Wolfensohn, Mr. Morgan spent 15 years with Schroders plc, a British merchant bank, where he was a member of the Board of the merchant bank and head of the Schroder Strategy Group, which he founded. Mr. Morgan, a British citizen, was raised in Kenya and educated in England. He graduated with a B. Engineering First Class Honors from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In 1982 he completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. He is currently also Chairman of Axcess International, Inc., FireStar Software Inc., Kromek, PrivateMarkets, Inc., and WellGen, Inc. and sits on the Board of Myconostica, Ltd.
Zaki Hosny, Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chairman
Zaki Hosny is responsible for all aspects of the management and operations of the Company. Prior to joining Motif in July 2006, Mr. Hosny spent over 35 years in the global pharmaceutical industry working for Merck & Co., Inc. He held senior management positions in the United States and several European countries in general management, marketing and government relations. In addition he has extensive experience of the clinical research and new products planning functions within the pharmaceutical industry, and of negotiating and partnering with private and governmental bodies. Mr. Hosny has an M.A. (Honours) degree from Cambridge University.
Jonathan E. Gold, Director
Mr. Gold is a Senior Portfolio Manager for the Federated Kaufmann Funds. The Federated Kaufmann Funds currently have approximately $10 billion under management. He previously was a founder and managing director of Amphion Capital Partners LLC. He also was previously a founder and managing director of VennWorks LLC. Prior to forming VennWorks in 1999, Mr. Gold was a partner in Amphion Capital Management LLC, the private equity firm that was a successor to Wolfensohn Partners where he earlier was an associate. He currently serves on the board of the Respect for Law Alliance, and as the President of the Board of the Marks JCH of Bensonhurst, a community center based social services organization. Mr. Gold received both his B.S. and M.B.A. in finance from New York University's Stern School of Business.
Gerard Moufflet, Director
Mr. Moufflet is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Acceleration International, a private equity firm based in Boston, which invests in the healthcare sector in both Europe and the US. From 1989 to 2001, Mr. Moufflet was a Managing Director at Advent International, one of the world’s leading private equity investment firms. From 1972 to 1989 Mr. Moufflet worked for Baxter International where he was in charge of various European and African operations and Head of Worldwide Strategic Planning for the dialysis product line. When he became Corporate Vice President and Vice President of Baxter World Trade, Baxter had grown to US $7 billion in sales. Mr. Moufflet currently serves on the Board of a US publicly held company, American Dental Partners. He is also on the Board of several privately held companies in Europe and the US.
Mary Lake Polan, M.D, Ph.D, MPH, Director
Dr Polan is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Columbia University Medical Center, and Emeritus Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. In 2003, she was appointed by President Bush’s Department of Health and Human Services to a new committee, the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Human Research Protection (SACHRP), created to advise the Bush administration on medical research matters.A leader in her field, Dr. Polan was a director of Wyeth, one of the world’s largest life sciences companies (now merged with Pfizer Inc.). She serves on the board of Adiana, a privately held medical device company. She is on the life science advisory group at DuPont. Dr. Polan also chairs the Procter & Gamble Feminine Protection Scientific Advisory Board and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Daily Wellness Co., which makes herbal/vitamin fertility products.
John W. Stakes III, M.D
Dr. Stakes is an Associate Neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and since 1982, Director of Massachusetts General Hospital Sleep Disorders Laboratory. Dr. Stakes is also Director of Specialty Care Development, Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO) since 1995, and was a Director of Beijing Med-Pharm. He was a member of the Committee on Continuing Medical Education, Harvard Medical School and has held teaching appointments at Harvard Medical School since 1975.
Bruce A. Williams, Director
Mr. Williams has served in senior positions for several biotech and pharmaceutical companies most recently as Senior Vice President of Global Business Management at Enzon. In this role Mr. Williams directed all aspects of Enzon’s sales and marketing activities, including training, management development, and medical information for field force, post-approval clinical programs for Enzon’s marketed brands and marketing research.Prior to joining Enzon he was Executive Vice President - Sales and Marketing of Genta Incorporated. While at Genta he developed and executed plans for partnering and commercialization of Genta’s investigational products. He also directed the establishment of a commercial oncology infrastructure at Genta and led Genta’s evolution into a commercial player in the oncology market. Before joining Genta, Mr. Williams served as Vice President, Sales and Marketing, at Celgene Corporation, where he built the commercial infrastructure to launch Celgene’s first pharmaceutical product, Thalomid™. Mr. Williams also provided the commercial direction for expanding Thalomid’s use through clinical programs. Currently, Thalomid is being evaluated in more than 100 cancer studies worldwide for hematological and solid tumor cancers. Mr. Williams’s extensive background also includes various management posts at Ortho Biotech and American Cyanamid Company (now American Home Products). While at Ortho Biotech, he led the launch and commercialization of the very successful biotechnical product PROCRIT. Mr. Williams received his BA in biology from Syracuse University and his MBA in finance and accounting from Columbia University.
